about
Hi, I’m Nancy, and I love sewing. I fell in love with it at a young age. Before I could sew I would study a constructed piece and wonder how it was made, which seam was sewn first. My love of fashion and vintage took shape as a child while putting on fashion shows with my sister and our friends modeling my grandmother’s castoff clothing and accessories. Once I learned the basics in my home economics class my passion for sewing was ignited, and I’ve never stopped.
After high school I won a fashion design competition which led me to studying fashion design, tailoring, and millinery at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. I sharpened my skills working as a freelance designer constructing custom-made clothing and costumes for individuals, film, theater, and dance productions.
I then went on to work as the director of education and fabric buyer at a family owned fabric store in New Jersey where I created and taught sewing classes to students of all ages. I am passionate about sharing my love of sewing, fabrics, and design with my students. I am a maker who loves all the needle & fiber arts including embroidery, hand sewing, quilting, weaving, and knitting. I am patient and enthusiastic about all projects and can interpret sometimes-confusing pattern instructions. I still find it amazing to take a piece of fabric and make it into something beautiful and useful.
